Cathedral Square is the central city square of Saransk, the capital of the Republic of Mordovia. It is located near the city's administrative center and is surrounded by historical buildings.
The new Cathedral Square was opened in Saransk in 2006 with the construction of the Cathedral of St. Theodore the Righteous Warrior. St. Theodore is considered the patron saint of Mordovia.
The cathedral is one of the largest churches in Russia and the tallest in the Volga region, with a height of 63 meters. It features 12 bells on its four belfries. One of the cathedral's main relics is an ark containing fragments of the relics of St. Theodore the Righteous Warrior.
The Cathedral Square is bounded by the streets of Kommunisticheskaya, Bolshevikskaya, Sovetskaya, and Kavkazskaya. In the northern part, there is a monument to Admiral Fyodor Fyodorovich Ushakov of the Russian Navy, and in the southern part, there is a monument to Patriarch Nikon.
