One of the visiting cards of Saransk, named after the thousand-year friendship between the Russian and Mordovian peoples.
The architectural dominant of the Millennium Square is the Ogarev Arena, a multifunctional sports complex. In front of there is the Star of Mordovia light and music fountain, which is shaped like an eight-pointed star, one of the symbols of the Republic. The tiles on the square, which are laid out in the form of traditional Mordovian patterns, are also a national motif.
Another reminder of the friendship between the two nations is the 34-ton Millennium Stone, which features an ancient map of Mordovia. The square hosts concerts, parades, and other festive events.
Here, you can also see the building of the Ogarev Mordovia State University. The university's high-rise building features an observation deck offering panoramic views of the fountain and Millennium Square.
We also recommend visiting the S. D. Erzya Museum of Fine Arts and the Mordovia Arena Stadium, which was built for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
