The fabulously beautiful Svetlogorsk is located 40 km from Kaliningrad, on the Sambian Peninsula, washed by the waves of the Baltic Sea. The city, surrounded by lush vegetation, was appreciated not only by tourists, but also by figures of the Russian cinema: its sights have repeatedly featured in Soviet films, in particular The Little Red Riding Hood, The Resident’s Mistake, The Starting Point, as well as in modern TV series Sink or Swim and Sea devils.
The most popular place in Svetlogorsk is rightfully considered to be the promenade — a cozy embankment, connected to the beach by wide stone stairs, used in the summer as a concert venue.
At the foot of the central staircase is one of the promenade's most popular attractions — the Zodiac sundial. The clock, 10 meters in diameter, was installed in 1974 and is oriented toward the North Star. The structure, decorated with mosaic images of the zodiac signs, is crowned with a giant hand set at an angle of 55°. This is the latitude at which Svetlogorsk is located.
The cable car is one of the landmarks of Svetlogorsk. It opened in 1983 and has since become a popular destination for tourists wanting to go down to the beach or back.
The cable car covers the 175-meter journey one way in 5 minutes, giving passengers the opportunity to take beautiful photos or simply admire the green city and enjoy the beautiful views of the sea and beach.
