AZIMUT Hotels has developed the "AZIMUT ART" program, designed to open new names and bring contemporary art outside the museum halls and biennial.
The goal of the program is to create points of attraction, interact with the viewer, rethinking the historical heritage of a region, emphasize the uniqueness of the territory, introducing new contexts and artistic statements. The first work was an installation by the modern Russian artist Victor Polyakov, who created for the hotel AZIMUT City Hotel Smolenskaya Moscow a light-dynamic composition "Cinematics of Light".
"Kinematics of Light"
Viktor Polyakov, 2021
The building now home to AZIMUT City Hotel Smolenskaya Moscow once housed the renowned Belgrade Hotel, built in 1975 in the style of Soviet modernism. The centerpiece — a light-dynamic installation on the ceiling of the elevator lobby — evokes both the modernist grid of Piet Mondrian and spatial experiments in the spirit of American minimalism. The mirrored elements on the wall panels echo the geometric design of the AZIMUT City Hotel Smolenskaya Moscow façade.
The space is shaped by a harmonious fusion of digital technology and analog light effects — the pure "physics" of a stream of rays. Variations of light effects — from meditative gradient overflows to flickering pure colors and their combinations — reflect the rhythm of the metropolis. Kinetic prisms transform monochromatic beams into vibrant rays of color. Hotel guests find themselves immersed in an environment filled with kaleidoscopic reflections. The pattern of rotating prismatic elements resembles a futuristic navigation system and references the identity of the AZIMUT Hotels brand. Computerized control makes it possible to adjust virtually every characteristic of the light installation.

Viktor Polyakov is an artist and cultural manager. He is a graduate of the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences / Bakhchinyan Institute of Contemporary Art.
In addition to gallery and interior installations, the artist focuses on creating public art in urban and natural environments: large-scale spatial objects, sculptural compositions, light and interactive installations, lighting concepts, kinetic sculptures, pavilion structures, and small architectural forms.
Viktor Polyakov works in the fields of light minimalism and abstract sculpture, as well as fine art photography. In his works, light and movement serve as the main media. Through optical effects and new technologies, the artist aims to transform the viewer’s perception of space.
