The Heart of the Region: Conquer the slopes of the ancient Khibiny Mountains, where you can ski until spring, and in summer enjoy walks through picturesque valleys, flowering grasses, and mosses.

The Heart of the Region. Khibiny Mountains

The Khibiny Mountains are low, compact mountains on the Kola Peninsula with plateau-like summits, gentle terrain, and treeless slopes. The highest point reaches 1,200 meters, with elevation differences ranging from 500 to 1,000 meters.

This mountain range is notable not only for its harsh northern beauty but also for its excellent opportunities for alpine skiing. The rarefied Arctic air creates conditions similar to a high-mountain climate. Thanks to stable weather, reliable snow cover, and long daylight hours, April is considered one of the best times in Europe to conclude the ski season here.

The main tourist hubs in the Khibiny Mountains are the towns of Kirovsk and Apatity, from which hiking and ski routes begin.
The most convenient way to reach Kirovsk from Murmansk is by car or bus. The distance is about 200 km, and the journey takes approximately 2–2.5 hours along the federal R-21 “Kola” highway. The road is scenic and comfortable.

The Heart of the Region. Khibiny Mountains

The Khibiny Mountains are among the oldest mountain ranges in the world and the heart of the Kola Peninsula. In winter, travelers come here to enjoy alpine skiing and hunt for the Northern Lights, while in summer, green valleys, blueberry and bilberry fields, countless streams, and waterfalls emerge among the barren rocks and icy lakes.

People come here for the harsh beauty of the Arctic wilderness — to see their reflection in the cold surface of mountain lakes and to climb mountain passes with names that sound like magical spells: Rischorr, Chorgorr, and Kuelporr.
