Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk International Airport named after Anton Chekhov (Khomutovo) is a federal airport, the largest in the region. It is located 10 km from the city center in the Khomutovo planning area.
The air harbor began its operations in 1945, after the liberation of the southern part of the island from Japanese troops. The first flights were carried out to Khabarovsk.
