The Voronezh State Nature Biosphere Reserve named after V. M. Peskov, located on the border of the Voronezh and Lipetsk regions, was established on December 3, 1923, to protect the then-endangered European beaver. Thanks to the work of the world's only experimental beaver nursery, the European beaver population in the country and Europe was restored.

The reserve covers an area of 31,053 hectares in the northern half of the Usman Pine Forest. In 2009, two state sanctuaries, Kamennaya Steppe and Voronezhsky, were also incorporated into the Voronezh Nature Reserve. The reserve's territory is included in the UNESCO List of Biosphere Reserves.

What to visit in the reserve?

  • The Nature Museum on the grounds of the Central Estate, in the administrative and excursion complex building.
  • The Beaver Town, including a beaver shed, a two-level aquarium with a beaver family (the Beaverarium), and the interactive museum "The Beaver House."
  • The V.M. Peskov Museum – the famous journalist and photographer, an honorary citizen of Voronezh, whose name was given to the reserve in 2013.
  • The Fire Museum, dedicated to the history of man's struggle against the destructive element of fire.

On the territory of the Central Estate of the Voronezh Biosphere Reserve is located one of the oldest monasteries of the Voronezh Diocese - the active Spaso-Preobrazhensky Tolshevsky Convent, founded in the 17th century. Particularly revered relics of the monastery are an ancient copy of the Korsun Icon of the Mother of God, the Kozelshchanskaya Icon of the Mother of God, and the and the "Burning Bush," with relics of Saints Tikhon of Zadonsk and Mitrofan of Voronezh.

We also recommend visiting other interesting and picturesque places in the vicinity of Voronezh – the Divnogorye Natural and Archaeological Complex and the White Well Park.
